He succeeded with an essay exploring AI’s impact on cybersecurity and Europe’s preparedness.

When we think of cybersecurity, we often imagine firewalls, encryption, and algorithms. But understanding how AI is reshaping security in terms of scalability and automation—and being able to communicate those insights effectively—is just as crucial. That’s exactly what Sebastian Garcia from our Stratosphere Lab demonstrated in his essay, earning 5th place in the AI-Cybersecurity Essay Prize Competition. It was organised in partnership between Binding Hook and the Munich Security Conference (MSC), and sponsored by Google

Sebastian's essay, titled The AI Question in Cybersecurity, explores how AI is changing the landscape of cyber threats, defenses, and even the cybersecurity workforce. He argues that Europe must act proactively—investing in AI diversity, updating cybersecurity education, and shaping policies that address AI’s dual role as both a security asset and a challenge.

Sebastian’s achievement underscores the growing importance of understanding AI’s role in cybersecurity beyond just technical implementation. Competitions like this provide a platform for experts to critically assess these challenges and propose actionable solutions. We are proud that our researchers actively contribute to this discourse.
