From snowy fields to dense forests, this year’s ECMR workshop and competition will tackle SLAM where GPS fails, sensors struggle, and resilience matters most.

Our Computational Robotics Lab is organizing the Resilient SLAM in Challenging Settings workshop at the European Conference on Mobile Robots (ECMR) 2025, taking place on September 2, 2025 in Padua, Italy.

This full-day workshop will bring together researchers tackling the hardest problems in Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) — from GPS-denied environments to sensor-degraded and structurally complex settings. The program will feature invited talks from leading experts including Martin Saska (CTU in Prague), Matteo Frosi (Politecnico di Milano), Luca Di Giammarino (Sapienza University of Rome), and others. Discussions will cover radar-based SLAM, multi-modal sensor fusion, resilience to sensor dropouts, robust back-end optimization, and new benchmarking approaches.

CALL FOR PAPERS

We invite submissions of novel contributions (up to 4 pages) on topics including, but not limited to:

  • SLAM under perceptual degradation
  • Radar-based SLAM and sensor fusion
  • Passive and low-cost localization
  • Architectures for failure resilience
  • Robust back-end optimization
  • Benchmarks, datasets, and metrics

📄 Submission deadline: August 20, 2025

SLAM CHALLENGE

Alongside the workshop, we are hosting the SLAM Challenge — open online to anyone, anywhere. Competitors will test their LiDAR, RADAR, or multi-spectral SLAM systems on real-world datasets collected with quadruped and wheeled robots in highly challenging environments.

This year’s challenge introduces a novel server-side evaluation: participants submit their Dockerized ROS1 SLAM system, which we run on our servers against private test data. Results are measured using Absolute Trajectory Error (ATE) and Relative Pose Error (RPE), ensuring fair, reproducible benchmarking.

📅 Registration deadline: August 28, 2025 (the platform remains open for benchmarking after this date)
