On September 24, 2020 in Prague, the Institute of Communication Studies and Journalism, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University (IKSŽ FSV UK) is organizing the conference Challenges of Journalism in 21. Century – Automated Journalism and AI Journalism aiming to reflect the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) methods in journalism. The event is an outcome of a joint project of the Department of Journalism, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University, Department of Computer Science FEE CTU, Department of Informatics and Computer Science, Faculty of Applied Sciences, University of West Bohemia in Pilsen and Czech News Agency (ČTK), entitled "Transformation of ethical aspects with the advent of artificial intelligence journalism". The principal investigator of the project supported by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic is PhDr. Václav Moravec, Ph.D., Ph.D. (Charles University).

During the last decade, we were witnessing the rise of automated journalism and application of artificial intelligence tools in the newsrooms. From the simple use of templates to highly sophisticated automated content production, omnipresent algorithms, news on social networks, fake news production and its detection became our everyday media practice. AI has slowly but unstoppably entered the media landscape. The rise of AI brought a wide scale of problems and questions that the conference aims to outline and scientifically reflect from the perspective of journalism and computer science.
